Basler jbasler@zianet.com (575) 521-4822 Waiver: 7,000 agl Notes: The theme for NSL 2010 is "Frontier of Aerospace Past, Present, and Future". NSL 2010 will be taking place adjacent to White Sands Missile Range, where much of America's missile and rocket technology was and continues to be tested and perfected (also where Harry Stine was working when he was first contacted by Orville Carlisle about his new invention called a "model missile"); White Sands Space Harbor, the backup Space Shuttle landing site where STS-3 landed and shuttle pilots routinely train; and Holloman AFB, where HAM the astronaut chimp was trained and home to the high speed test track where Dr. John Paul Stapp became the "Fastest Man Alive" while testing the human body's ability to tolerate extreme acceleration and deceleration forces. Spaceport America, the world's first commercial spaceport where Virgin Galactic will be ferrying tourists into space aboard Spaceship Two, lies just 45 miles to the west. Roswell, where Robert Goddard continued his rocke try R&D in the 1930's after relocating from Massachusetts, lies just 90 miles to the northeast. Alamogordo is home to the New Mexico Museum of Space History/International Space Hall of Fame. We have several fun contests planned in addition to good old fashioned sport launching up to N motor class. Proximity of nearby residences affects which motor classes can be flown to which elevations, so see the website for details. Group tours of the Missile Range (including Launch Complex 33, which is not normally open to public viewing), Sacramento Peak and Apache Point Solar Observatories, and the Space History Museum (and its artifact warehouse) are being planned. Come fly in one of the hotbeds of American space and rocketry history! http://www.nsl2010.org ___________________________________________________________________________

SCRA conducts controlled & supervised launches for the general public at the Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area in Irwindale on the dates listed below. YOU CAN ONLY LAUNCH IN THE PARK AS PART OF A CONTROLLED & SUPERVISED LAUNCH!! Normal SCRA safety-check and launching procedures will be followed. You must be familiar with the procedures and have your flight cards filled out properly. For a copy of the launch procedure & flight cards call SCRA or visit our website. Please note revised park vehicle fee and SCRA launch fee to help our club offset the new park use rental fee. LAUNCH TIMES: from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Arrive early if you want to launch! VEHICLE FEE (pay at park entrance): $10 per passenger car. LAUNCH FEE (pay at safety check-in table): $2 per flyer per day. The “flyer” is the person checking the rocket in through the safety check/pad assignment table. No fee for spectators. Fee waived for NAR members of Section 430 (indicated on NAR membership card), for student TARC team flights and for youth groups who built their models at a class conducted by SCRA. LIMITS: Field will accommodate up to a single G motor (* except during April, May & early June). There are trees and a lake down wind from our launch and recovery area, so you should use the lowest power motors possible to recover your model rockets safely. * During April, May and early June, because of the smaller launch and recovery area, the power limit will be very low. You will ONLY be allowed to use the lowest power motor that can be safely used in any model up to a C motor maximum for large and heavy models. Medium sized models will be limited to A or B motors. Small models will typically use MicroMaxx, 1/8A, 1/4A, 1/2A or A motors. The intent is to limit the maximum altitude to about 500 feet for streamer recovery models and about 350 feet for parachute recovery models. Call us or see our YahooGroup for more details or advice. DIRECTIONS: The park is located southeast of where the 605 & 210 Freeways meet. Enter park on Azusa Canyon Rd (on Arrow Hwy, just west of Irwindale Ave); pay the park vehicle fee ($10) and then turn left at the main park roadway and proceed all the way to parking lots 5 or 6 (*except during April, May & early June). Launch area will be roped off just south of parking lots (towards the dam) in “overflow” area. Park map is available at entrance or on our website. * During April, May & early June when the Renaissance Fair is using the west end of the park, we use the much smaller lawn area just south of the boat launch parking lot. Turn right at the boat launch road that leads to that parking lot. You can’t miss it since it’s just past parking lot 3 and there is a stop sign there. http://home.earthlink.net/~mebowitz/ ___________________________________________________________________________ Date: Mar 13, Apr 10, May 8, Jun 10-15 (LDRS 29/ROCstock 31), Jul 10, Aug 14, Sep 11, Oct 9-10 (ROCtober III), Nov 12-14 (ROCstock 32), Dec 11 2010 Location Lucerne Valley, CA Event: ROC Monthly Launches Class of Event: Sport Launch Contest Events: Sponsor: Rocketry Organization of California (ROC) Contact: Rick Dickinson rtd@notesguy.com 818-481-5184 Waiver: 19,000\' AGL Notes: ROC holds monthly model & high-power sport launches on the second Saturday of each month.
