Craftsmanship Events
Craftsmanship events emphasize building skills including accuracy and attention to detail. The models must also fly well. This results in challenging and crowd pleasing efforts.
Three craftsmanship events focus on building & flying scale models of actual rockets that have flown. Scale is the premier event that requires dimensionally accurate models. Sport Scale is a somewhat relaxed version of Scale in which dimensional accuracy is visually evaluated at a distance of one meter. Scale Altitude is a combination of Scale and altitude events. This event usually favors sounding rocket prototypes.
Three other craftsmanship events focus on other areas. Plastic Model Conversion requires that a commercial plastic model kit of a rocket or jet airplane be converted to fly as a model rocket. Classic Model is essentially building a scale model of classic model rocket kits produced prior to 1990. Concept Scale is similar to Sport Scale except that the prototypes are from science fiction media or advanced space studies. These three events provide great opportunities for creativity.
