Privacy Notice
Welcome to the National Association of Rocketry (NAR) website. Your privacy is important to us. The NAR has created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to your privacy. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for this website: www.nar.org.
Information We Collect
This privacy notice applies to all of the information collected and submitted on the NAR website. On some pages, you can apply for membership, renew membership, register and renew a NAR affiliate section, and purchase products. The types of information collected include:
- Name
- Address
- Email address
- Phone number
- Member identification number
- Credit/debit card information
- Information about your membership or section
Parents – the NAR is concerned about the privacy of your children and does not knowingly collect information about children without parental supervision. We encourage you to actively monitor your child’s Internet activities, including those on our website.
General Visitors
We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer our website. However, we do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable. This means that visitors’ accesses will be tracked, but the visitors themselves remain anonymous.
You are not required to provide any identifying information in order to visit and use the information residing on our site.
Members
The NAR collects information on a voluntary basis. If you choose to join the National Association of Rocketry or to charter an affiliated NAR Section by filling out one of our application forms, you will be required to give us contact information (like your name and email address), unique identifiers (your NAR membership number, if you have one), financial information (a credit card number), and demographic information (like your zip code and age).
We use the member contact and demographic information from these application forms to send you your issues of Sport Rocketry magazine and other membership benefits and communications. The contact information you supply on our application forms is also used by the NAR to contact you when necessary (for example, to renew your membership).
The financial information that you provide is used to bill you for products and services you order on the application forms. All credit information is collected on a secure website.
A unique identifier (NAR number or Section number) is issued to you or (if renewing) specified by you and represents your unique number in our record system.
NAR membership records are not shared with other organizations who have similar interests or missions; your complete membership record information is not passed on to other mailing lists. Names and addresses of members may, from time to time, be made available to “third-parties” such as NAR members who are attempting to establish or expand NAR clubs (sections) in a particular geographic area. Members are given the option to be excluded from such mailings by checking the appropriate box on our application form. Members may change this choice at any future time by following the “Choice/Opt-Out” procedure below. The NAR does not share any information to anyone about members under the age of 18.
Members may also opt-out of receiving future mailings from the NAR itself by terminating their memberships; see the “Choice/Opt-Out” procedure below.
Online Forms
Our online surveys (such as our Malfunctioning Engine Statistical Survey) ask visitors for contact information (like their email address). This contact information is used only to identify and to contact the submitter when necessary. No mailing lists are assembled from this information, with the exception of forms or surveys which clearly state that the information provided will be used for the purposes of creating a mailing list.
Online Shopping and “Cookies”
We make use of a commercial “shopping cart” software package for our online shopping offerings such as NARTS. This package makes use of browser “cookies” as a way of remembering the contents of your “shopping cart” while you are actively using the ordering software. This software and the cookies it sets are not under our control, and, outside the shopping-cart software itself, these cookies are not examined or used elsewhere on our site, nor are their contents available to any other site.
Otherwise, our website does not set, read, maintain, or in any way use browser “cookies.”
Site Specificity
This site contains links to other websites, including sites belonging to chartered Sections of the NAR. These external websites are not under the control of or administered by the Association. The NAR is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these other websites.
Security
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control.
Children’s Guidelines
This website meets the guidelines of TRUSTe’s Children’s program.
Because we do not accept online applications not accompanied by valid credit card information, any online contact information provided by children without prior parental consent is not used or maintained. This provides an opportunity for the parent to prevent use of the information and participate in the activity. Any other online information (such as an email directed to the NAR) will only be used by NAR officials to respond directly to the child’s request. This type of online information will not be used for any other purposes. Other than for membership applications, we do not collect personally identifiable offline contact information from children.
We do not distribute to third parties any personally identifiable information about children. Because we do not provide “bulletin boards,” “guestbooks,” or “chat rooms,” we do not allow children the ability to publicly post personally identifiable contact information.
We do not entice youngsters, by the prospect of a special game, prize or other activity, to divulge personally identifiable contact information.
Choice/Opt-Out
Our application form allows members the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from third-party promotional mailings at the time of application.
This site gives visitors the options of removing their information from our records so as not to receive future communications or services; and of correcting, changing, and modifying information previously provided. To do so:
You can send email to nar-hq@nar.org
You can send mail to the following postal address:
